Winter Class Schedule December 2011 - February 2012

Sunday Morning (10:20am - 11:10am)

The End of the Age Throughout the Ages – A Study of End Times (Eschatology)

Is the year 2012 when time will be no more, according to popular writings (and the movie) about the ancient Mayan calendar? This may be the last chance to learn about the end times (if you believe the stories about 2012). This class will study what the Bible has to say about the end of this age, judgment day and the second coming of Jesus. We will also look at what has been said on this subject throughout the history of Christianity, as well as the beliefs held by Muslims (Islam), Jews (both ancient and modern Judaism), Mormons and several Christian denominations that differ from orthodox Christian doctrines. We will conclude with a discussion of how this topic has been understood within the Churches of Christ in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

Teacher – Steve Curlee
Location – Education Wing - Rooms 1-2 (first 2 rooms on left)

Return to the Lord

There is much for us to learn from the Israelites as we study their behavior and their relationship with God as recorded in the Old Testament. Sometimes they followed God's instructions fairly well and sometimes they outright rebelled. In this class, we will explore the events regarding one specific period of time in their history - the years just after the Babylonian captivity. Our study, which will be largely from Ezra and Nehemiah, will focus on the physical return to Judea, the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the Temple, and the return of hearts to the worship of God only. We will focus on God's promises, which he always kept, and on human responses to God which might be acts of faith or acts of disobedience.

Teacher – Jim Sidle
Location – Education Wing - Room 3 (last room on left)

Ephesians (Adult Seniors’ Class)

Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians will be carefully studied to rediscover the brilliance of God’s plan of salvation in Christ and highlight the Christian purpose. We will be reminded of the responsibilities that apply in any age as the letter from Paul reveals our relationship to God and our relationships to each other. We will mix in background information to provide context that may provide some perspectives worth consideration. Class is open to any and all members.

Teachers – Mike Villers and Don Davis
Location – Community Room

The Bible’s Cast of “Characters”

This adult bible class will study both Old Testament and New Testament people who were true “characters.” Some played a key role in the development of the study of salvation, but were pretty col- orful themselves. Some may tickle you, some may disgust you and others will simply inspire you to let God work through your life.

SPECIAL NOTE: This class will begin in January of 2012 and continue through May.
During the month of December, Bill Forsythe will be concluding his study on Prayer.
