MEET OUR MINISTER

Ray Hawkins - Pulpit Minister

Ray is the husband of Rhonda and the father of Zach and Eric.  He was born in East Texas, graduated with his BS in Psychology from East Texas State University and his MS in Biblical Studies from Abilene Christian. He was the 4th fulltime Singles Minister hired in our brotherhood in the year 1979 while at Saturn Rd. Church of Christ in Garland, Texas. After 5 years there, the Singles Ministry grew from 5 single adults to over 150.

He and Rhonda married in 1980, and in 1985, moved to Denton, Texas to become the Campus Minister for both The University of North Texas and Texas Woman's Universities. In 1989, Ray completed his Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy and moved to Dallas to serve as the Dean for Student Services at Amber University (formerly Abilene Christian University at Dallas.) In 1993, he moved to Atlanta to become the Director for the Genesis Center for Christian Counseling at North Atlanta Church of Christ. Three years ago, he broke from them to begin his own non-profit organization called the Professional Center for Christian Counseling, a ministry of Parenting Plus, Inc. This allowed him to start counseling centers in area churches of Christ. He now has 14 locations- 12 churches, one Christian business and one Christian School with 5 Christian counselors on staff. One of those locations is, of course, located here at East Cobb.
